BALLOONS!

Hello Song: "If You'd Like to Hear a Book" (Tune: "If You're Happy and You Know It")
If you want me to read a book, clap your hands.

If you want me to read a book, clap your hands.
If you want me to read a book, listen up and take a look.

If you want me to read a book, clap your hands.

Book:  Sebastian and the Balloon by Philip Stead
Sebastian and the balloon
A story full of adventure as Sebastian makes his own hot air balloon.  I love Philip Stead's illustrations.

Song/Activity:  "My Red Balloon"
I had a little red balloon (make ball with hands)
And I blew and blew and blew (blow into hands)

Until it grew and grew and grew (stretch hands apart)
I tossed it in the air (pretend to toss balloon up)

And never let it drop (pretend to catch it)
Until hit the ground (slap lap)
And it went POP! (CLAP!)

Book: And Away We Go by Migy
And away we go!
A cute story that adds all sorts of animals to a hot air balloon until what could be a disastrous ending turns into the best thing.

Song/Flannel Board: (Tune: "Pop Goes the Weasel)
Child's Name had a color balloon.
He/she blew and blew all day
His/her mother said you better stop
Whoops (CLAP!) too late. He/she popped it!

(Hand each child a felt balloon and have them place it on the board when their name is called)

Book:  Perfectly Percy by Paul Schmid
Perfectly Percy
Very cute story about a porcupine who must solve the problem of popping his balloons.

Flannel Board:
Five balloons in the sky
Way up high, watch them fly!
If one should POP! (clap hands)
And quickly drop (remove balloon from board)
How many balloons do you see?

"Pete the Clown and his Five Bright Balloons"
Pete the Clown bought five bright balloons at the carnival.
He was so excited about them, he sang a song as he walked along.
"I've got five ballooo-oons! I've got five ballooo-oons!" (sung to the Congo line song)
But then...POP! (Clap!)
One balloon brok and started to drop.

Now how many balloons does Pete have?
Did Pete cry? No, never.
He knows balloons don't last forever.
Pete was still happy to have four balloons that he kept walking along and singining his song...
Continue until no balloons then...
Pete was out of balloons.  What could he do?
Well, he stopped where he was, turned around and went back to the carnival where he bought five more bright balloons.

As he walked along, he sang his song...

Closing Song:
Oh it's time to say goodbye to all my friends (clapclap)
It's time to say goodbye to all my friends (clapclap)
Storytime is done today (wave goodbye)
So come again another day

It's time to say goodbye to all my friends (clapclap)
